In November 2015 the NSW Government published a media release promising customers would be able to “rip up their timetable”, with maximum 10-minute headways between services to and from Wynyard Station and Mona Vale on the Northern Beaches.
Within two years and after extensive planning and design was completed, the B-line opened in November 2017 with double-decker buses running 7-days a week from 4.30am until 12.30am.. The service was so successful that in the first year of operation more than 5.9 million customers were recorded using the service.
PeopleTrans was involved in the planning and design stage of the project. We also undertook a peer-review role and assessed intersection/link designs and detailed modelling developed for the business case along the entire length of the corridor.
PeopleTrans also completed detailed bus travel time surveys to identify existing delay points and developed strategies to resolve them. A parking study along the entire route was also completed and PeopleTrans prepared designs in-house for complicated intersections and pinch points along the route. At stages within the project, PeopleTrans staff were seconded within the B-Line team at Transport for New South Wales to improve collaboration with the project team and to assist in the development of the business case.
PeopleTrans are proud to have been involved in this project and look forward to the continued improvement of the service, to carry even more people over the next 12 months.
