Traffic Engineering

traffic engineering and transport planning

The field of traffic engineering is constantly evolving as the expectations of the community change and as new technology is developed.  Over time the density of our cities have increased and the fixed road resources have become more valuable.  While historically, traffic engineering was about simply checking that an intersection could achieve the required flow of vehicles, today, traffic engineers must ensure all vehicles work together to maximise the available resources for all road users and the people within those vehicles.  Bicycles, motorcycles, vans, trucks, taxis, buses and trams all have to share the road and there are often competing demands for road space.

Examples of our specific project areas include:

  • Intersection modelling and priority studies
  • Town Centre Transport Studies
  • Road corridor studies
  • Local Area Traffic Management
