From the beginning of 2013 to May 2015, PeopleTrans provided not only technical management assistance on specific commuter car park and interchange projects but also provided traffic engineering and transport planning advice across the entire Transport Access Program. This advice included everything from traffic impact assessments, road safety audits, bus operations, construction traffic management plans, pedestrian planning, bus planning (including transport stakeholder co-ordination) and traffic facilities design.
We regard ourselves as being very fortunate to have provided this type of advice to an organisation which is following in the footsteps of Transport for London and progressively changing the face of Transport in Sydney and New South Wales for the benefit of the wider community.
The photo above is of the Gordon transport interchange which sits on top of a 3-level underground commuter car park. As Technical Manager, Alan Stewart was responsible for ensuring that the designers and builders of the project delivered a product which met the requirements of the TfNSW contract throughout the entire project lifecycle from a compliance, quality and time perspective. His role also included the co-ordination of the project through TfNSW’s configuration control board process as it related to design, construction and operational readiness. Alan often had to respond to RFIs and liaise with various Transport Stakeholders.
Alan has been involved in traffic engineering and transport planning studies in Gordon for over 10 years and this project is the culmination of a significant amount of work by the public and private sectors. It can take a long time for projects to go from the planning stage to the construction stage so this is a significant achievement. We hope that this project will be the catalyst for future land use improvements within the wider Gordon Town Centre area.
